Kimball, NE - race recap
Kimball County MX played host to the fourth round of the RMVMC vintage race series. The race was an inaugural event for the club, and the track and its conditions did not disappoint.
The rolling hills and exquisite dirt made for an exciting, and action-packed day across all classes. The track featured multiple large, but safe jumps and berms in nearly every corner. The dirt in the Nebraska plains rivals that of the nearby Brush track, commonly cited as some of the finest dirt in the region. The comments heard around the pits were all very favorable towards the new track, and its owners were exceedingly accommodating to any requests we made.
The competition in each of the classes was as intense as always, with riders battling to lead their respective points chases in each division. Within every race there were friendly rivalries, sometimes amongst riders in different divisions that kept the days action exciting for the racers and spectators.
The club even added a new Vintage Twin Cylinder class that was very well received by its participants. It was quite a treat to see those rumbling old, sparsely suspended, thumpers roaring to life amid the Nebraska plains.
As always there were several new faces that came out to check out the club, and from all the feedback we received, they were happy to be a part of such an awesome weekend and planned to return. The smiling faces, and camaraderie that always permeates the pits of an RMVMC event only enhanced an already stellar weekend.
This was truly an outstanding race weekend at Kimball County MX. The track owners provided a well prepped, and well-designed racetrack for our vintage crew. All in all, if you missed this one, you won't want to make that mistake in the future.
Great News!
RMVMC is now an AMA Charter Club
RMVMC will now be nationally sanctioned and supported by the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA). This partnership will strengthen our club's recognition, and through the AMA, will help us provide national-class events to our racers and club members.
What does this mean to you, an RMVMC Racer?
Eligibility to compete in AMA National events
Ability to earn district and national rankings
Liability protection at AMA Sanctioned events
...and all the numerous benefits of being an AMA member
What are the next steps?
While there are many details associated with racing in AMA Sanctioned events probably the first and foremost thing to do is to get on board as an AMA Member. Joining is easy - just click here to join! (This is a must-do next step).
We'll also be adjusting our Rules and Code of Conduct to be more in alignment with the AMA. You can grab a copy of the AMA Rulebook for Motocross here.
Additionally, we'll be switching over to annual electronic waivers - no more manual completion at the races! After completeing the online release form you'll be send a PDF card via email - that will be all you need for this calendar year! You can read more about the AMA Annual Release forms here. Start with verifying the information in your AMA Profile, here, then move on to complete the appropriate online waiver form:
Minor Release form (multiple guardians)
Minor Release form (sole custody)

If you receive your Universal Waiver card, bring it.
...change the oil, clean the filter, air up your tires and throw in a splash of gas --- you're READY TO RACE!
RMVMC and AMA Memberships, along with appropriate release forms, will be available during registration. If you signup for AMA online, bring/record your AMA Member number. If you complete your AMA Release but have not received your waiver card, no problem - complete a paper waiver at registration.
This is a huge step forward, and we truly appreciate your patience and commitment as we grow together. Our goal is to keep vintage racing safe, fun, and sustainable for years to come.
Safe Vintage Racing - what's it all about?
Verifying that your race bike and gear is up to snuff will help ensure that all of our motos are as fair, and safe, as they can possibly be. Here's a quick hit-list of some of the more important items to be looking at:
Helmet - Snell or DOT approved, 2015 and newer, no open face helmets
Riding Gear - boots 8" or taller
Braking system - proper function and in good condition
Throttle Operation - no binding or sticking
Kill Switch - operational
Levers and controls - ball ends present, bar ends plugged, steering head bearing play
Footrests - fold upwards
Tires and wheels - sufficient tread, spokes tight, no bearing play
Sprockets and Chain - in good operatingcondition
Number Plates - 3 plates, 5" numbers
We expect that most RMVMC racers have well maintained machines and good gear - use this list as a mental cross-check. Safety takes no holidays!
